About him
My passion for historic architecture led to a career as an architectural historian. I wrote books, did some university teaching, even popped up on TV occasionally. I'm also very interested in art, especially twentieth century, design, photography, music (love folk, Americana, rock, blues, jazz), film (particularly like those wonderful Hitchcock films of the fifties) history, politics, literature, book collecting, vintage cars and industrial archaeology. I love exploring the country and I'm always up for trying something new. Well-travelled, I've studied in Italy and the USA and have subsequently paid many visits to Italy looking at buildings and enjoying the landscape. I'm lucky enough to live near the sea and the South Downs and walking keeps me very fit which I then completely wreck with visits to tea shops!
I'm a positive, laid-back person and extremely reliable: if I say I'm going to be somewhere at a particular time, I make sure that I am. I'm quite chatty but also a good listener. Although I enjoyed a successful career, I'm not at all competitive and don't always feel I have to win an argument. In fact, I'm not very argumentative at all although I relish good conversation. I like gentle humour - the Detectorists is a great favourite of mine.

I'd like to meet someone who perhaps shares some of my assorted interests/ passions, especially travelling round the British Isles to see all the interesting bits we haven't yet seen and there's quite a few places in Europe I'd like to visit/revisit. Going for country walks is another thing I'd love to share with someone else. I'd just be delighted to find someone who is as happy staying in to watch a film as going out to see some live music. I'd love someone who makes me laugh a lot and hopefully who might find me at least vaguely amusing!
