About him
Warm-hearted. My starting points are in music, arts and design. I'm English, love London, and love Europe. Humorous. Driven by personal interests and family life, rather than by professional success. I generally look for answers to my own and others' difficulties. I'm optimistic, and oddly remain so - even given the experience of losing my wife to cancer nine years ago. Retired landscape architect, environmentalist.
I care about:
• The visual world - design that answers real questions, and gives us a boost - new architecture and green building – clothes which are funky and fun.
• Making and mending beautiful things – I used to make or frame pieces for my wife who was a painter.
• Conservation of nature - I get upset by waste.
• Playing with language - I enjoy challenging jargon in favour of invention and description – I take on occasional copy-editing work. I love France, and can fix most things in French too.
• Music – especially my piano which is better than I am – and sacred music – I sing in a small church choir as a bass or alto.
• I answer to agnostic, with a Catholic background, and open-minded interest in the religion and philosophy of Europe.
• My family – three grown-up children, and grandchildren.
I tend to dislike:
Wobbly café tables - Golf - Right-wing politics - Brexit - Too many exclamation marks - Pets that constrain freedom to leave the house - Smoking or vaping - Thick face paint - Unnecessarily dark dyes which mask the natural beauty of greying hair - Tea bags.
