About him
I am logical, organised, detail-conscious, reliable, caring, supportive, generous, educated, well-mannered, well-spoken, non-judgemental, open-minded and very romantic. I don't like drama and I absolutely hate arguing and conflict. I am not always right and, although I can "lead", I expect a relationship to run on mutual respect and consensus.
People, not money, have my priority and I have friends (including many platonic female friends) all over the country, many of whom I have known for more than half my life. I prefer to spend time with people on an individual basis, so we can talk in depth; when I ask "How are you?" I really want to know. If that makes me intense that's fine, but I'd rather that than be thought of as "shallow".
I am interested in British history and architecture and I visit historic sites regularly. When overseas, I'm more likely to be found visiting an historic site than lying on a beach (although I do enjoy a nice villa with a pool, good restaurants nearby and something interesting to look at in the vicinity).
I enjoy music of all types (classical, choral, folk, pop, disco, heavy metal, ska, mod) but particularly rock, and I regularly go to live gigs. Defining music is pointless - if it moves me, that's all that matters!
I am not a film buff, but I do enjoy comedy, usually half an hour of something on TV or DVD. I can be serious, but I can also see the funny side of life, and often laugh at myself (rather than others).
Once upon a time, I was ridiculously fit (I played hockey and trained/played 6 times a week) but that's many years ago. Now I keep myself fit with regular visits to the gym - I hate going, it's ok when I am there and I feel great afterwards. It keeps my heart and lungs strong and me in shape - I still fit into the same jeans I was wearing 20 years ago.
I don't ski or play golf and I consider walking to be a method of getting somewhere rather than an activity in itself.
I am serious but lighthearted, planned but spontaneous. I accept and embrace contradictions.

I'm looking for a kind, thoughtful, intelligent woman to be my partner and my equal.
My equal? Yes, but not a female version of me with exactly the same interests and views of the world, but someone with a curious intellect who can stimulate me mentally, with strengths which complement mine, each relying on the other, to become a stronger team together than as two individuals.
I don't believe in a "spark" or a "flash of lightning" - for me, communication is the key. If we communicate well, conversation flows easily and we enjoy each other's company, that is where friendship will grow and romance will blossom.
My ideal woman will be serious about finding her ideal partner and so will have taken time and care preparing her profile.

I appreciate that you will already have a full and busy life and I do not expect you to be able to drop everything every time I send you an email. Nor do I expect you to have time for endless emails - after all, whether I believe in a "spark" or not, meeting up is the only way to find out about the person behind the profile and see if we really "click".
I don't have a "type". You can be tall or short, curvy or slim, blonde or brunette or anything in between but to me you will have that certain something - a combination of physical, emotional and intellectual beauty that will make me miss you when we are apart and cherish every moment that we are together.
